Sara Varnum Institute: Access, Assessment, & Inclusion

November 13 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm

Picture of Thomas J. Tobin

Part-time and adjunct faculty are invited to join us virtually for the Sara Varnum Institute for Instructional Excellence. We are excited to bring Thomas J. Tobin, author of Reach Everyone, Teach Everyone: Universal Design for Learning in Higher Education, who will share three low-effort, do-them-right-now techniques for remote instruction that will reduce student anxiety and pressure, reduce your own instructor frustrations, and allow you to focus on the interactions that you want to have with your students. He will discuss three new-normal practices for assessment techniques: testing, grades, and feedback; access to materials, interactions, and people (in the course and beyond); and equitable and inclusive practices that honor your students’ circumstances.

Following the keynote, break out sessions will address practical guidance for using academic technology to achieve your instructional goals related to access, assessment, and inclusion. Facilitated dialogues with your peers will allow you to make collegial connections and reflect on your practice.
