Group Instructional Feedback Technique (GIFT)

GIFT is a confidential, mid-term evaluation process that helps instructors gather actionable, constructive feedback directly from their students. Guided by trained peer consultants from the Center for Academic Innovation, this service focuses purely on student perspectives—not instructional critiques.

Submit a Request for a Gift

Note: Please allow up to two weeks for the Center for Academic Innovation to process your request. You may submit the form multiple times if you would like feedback for more than one course.

How the Process Works

  1. Submit a Request: Complete the request form. A peer consultant will contact you to confirm details, answer questions, and schedule the classroom visit. GIFTs are offered during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms.
  2. Classroom Discussion (30 Minutes): On the scheduled day, your facilitator introduces the process to your class. Once you step out, the facilitator divides students into small groups to discuss course strengths, identify areas for improvement, and suggest constructive changes.
  3. Debrief Session: Your facilitator synthesizes the feedback into a summary and meets with you privately to review the findings.
  4. Follow-Up: You return to your class to discuss the results and any planned updates with your students.
