Alternative Formats In Panorama

Panorama can generate alternative formats of your documents for you and students! This ability to choose a format not only makes it easier for individuals with disabilities to access with assistive technologies (such as a screen reader or brailler), it also provides support for all students, allowing them to access materials in a way that best suits their learning preferences and needs.

Formats the program can generate include:

  • PDF
  • Text File
  • Gradient Reader
  • Electronic Braille
  • Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
  • Immersive Reader
  • EPUB
  • Audio Podcast
  • Math Formulas
  • Language Translations

Let Your Students Know!

Alternate Formats are available for all users in Canvas – be sure to let your students know about how to take advantage of this feature so they can get the most out of Canvas and access materials in a way that best suits their needs!

Panorama Alternate Formats for Students

Note: We recognize that there are instances that you would not want a student to access materials in a certain format (such as a language translator on a French Language Exercise). If so, Panorama gives you the option of turning off all formats at a course level, just Translations at a course level or all translations for an individual document.

How does it work?

To Find and Select Alternative Formats:

  1. Select the icon to the right of any uploaded document – this will open a pop up window over the page.
  2. Select the format that you would like – the file will start to process and let you know when it is done.
  3. You will have the option to see the document in Canvas or to download it – and in some cases even listen to it.
