Engage with the Equity and Open Education Faculty Cohort

The Equity and Open Education Faculty Cohort Model offered by Open Oregon Educational Resources helps faculty make education truly inclusive of all students by using open educational resources. In this four-week course, faculty work in small groups to explore OER, open pedagogy, and other approaches. Faculty have the option to extend the course for an additional four weeks to redesign a course component. All participants receive a stipend upon completing each four-week part of the course.

The next cohort begins January 16 and registration closes on December 9th.

Apply for OCCA’s Statewide Cohort in Inclusive Classroom Practices

OCCA’s Student Success Center is sponsoring a cohort of community college instructors to complete ACUE’s Inclusive Teaching for Equitable Learning (ITEL) course.

ACUE’s courses address a comprehensive set of evidence-based teaching practices shown to promote student success. In ACUE’s ITEL microcredential course, faculty learn teaching practices for developing students’ sense of belonging, ensuring course materials are accessible, developing appreciation for diverse viewpoints, understanding how diversity aids in innovation, and setting expectations for productive dialogue.

Beginning January 17, 2023, the course consists of five modules that are nearly completely asynchronous, with one module offered every two weeks and additional check-ins to support and expand the course experience.  The average time commitment in completing the course is 2-3 hours per week, and the course schedule is approximately 9 weeks long.

  • Managing the Impact of Bias
  • Reducing Microaggressions in Learning Environments
  • Addressing Imposter Phenomenon and Stereotype Threat
  • Creating Inclusive Learning Environments
  • Designing Equity Centered Courses

The first course will begin on January 17th.  It will be asynchronous except for one virtual course launch Tuesday, January 10 at 2:00–3:00 pm PST. (Link to be provided at a later date.)

Take a Look at this NISOD Webinar: First, Do No Harm…

NISOD: “First, Do No Harm: Equitable Grading Practices That Support Mastery”
When: Thursday, January 19, 11 am-12 pm
Description:

Our traditional systems of grading tend to reward behavior rather than knowledge, to be demotivating, and to demand that instructors perform endless workarounds to improve student outcomes. In this webinar, the presenters introduce an approach to grading that aims to equitably assess student learning and motivate student persistence. Presenters share details on grading strategies, preliminary results, and learning from implementation. They also provide a sample alternative assessment tool.

FREE for Chemeketa faculty and staff. Create a NISOD account if you do not already have one. Use your Chemeketa address.
